What the heritage schedules include

The Auckland Unitary Plan Operative in Part and Auckland Council District Plan include heritage schedules. These schedules contain places that are recognised as having significant heritage value to the people of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.

The heritage schedules include:

historic heritage places and areas
special character areas
notable trees
sites and places of significance to mana whenua.

Provisions in these plans protect these places to ensure we retain their significance.

Who can nominate a place for inclusion in the heritage schedule

Any individual or organisation can nominate a historic heritage place or tree for inclusion in the heritage schedules if they think it has significant heritage value.

However, only mana whenua are able to nominate sites and places of significance to mana whenua for inclusion.
