Propagating, harvesting and weaving flax following Māori protocol.
Experiences
Students make connections with Māori culture and learn protocols for harvesting and weaving harakeke under the guidance of local kuia before weaving their own flax fish and flowers.
Then it's off to the flax collection to discover the different types and many uses of flax (kete, sandals, rope, cloaks), before students propagate their own harakeke plant to take home.
