Discover the role of wetlands in supporting shorebirds and their migratory habits.
Experiences
Meet the magical migrants of the Manukau. Every summer Manukau Harbour is home to thousands of shorebirds from the far reaches of the Northern Hemisphere.
Students become 'twitchers' for the day. With binoculars and telescopes at hand, they identify some of the birds feeding on the shell bank. Then it's down to the mudflats to take core samples and discover what makes the Manukau Harbour a world renowned wetland for birds.
Along the way students develop an appreciation for these amazing navigators of the bird world and the wetlands that sustain them - plus, what we can do to help them.
