Students learn what happens to the food scraps collected in the new domestic collection service.
Experiences
Tamariki will learn how to make good use of things that are often put in rubbish bins.
They will learn:
- the principles of reducing, reusing and recycling common household items
- what can be done to recycle food scraps through a range of fun, hands-on activities.
Food scraps game
Students will find out what happens to the rukenga kai (food cast onward) collected by the new food scraps service.
They will discover:
- how to set up a pāmu noke (worm farm)
- what composting worms can eat
- what other animals live in a worm farm.
Students will develop an understanding of:
- cycles in nature
- the principles of para kore (zero waste)
- looking after our taiao (environment).
Tamariki will leave the session empowered to make changes to reduce their waste.
