Pest-free Auckland is a conservation initiative aimed at helping our native species flourish free from introduced pest animals and plants, pathogens and marine pests.
This initiative supports activities within the Auckland region such as:
Pest-free Auckland is partly funded by the Natural Environment Targeted Rate, which was introduced in July 2018.
It is guided by our Regional Pest Management Plan to help eliminate threats to our native species.
The Predator Free 2050 goal aims to progressively eradicate three of the most damaging introduced predators nationwide by 2050:
Alongside Pest-free Auckland, we support the national commitment for New Zealand to be predator-free by 2050.
To achieve Pest-free Auckland and Predator Free 2050, we need new tools and techniques along with the support of Aucklanders.
Until we have the tools for eradication, we need to focus on suppressing introduced pest species and non-native threats across the region.
