Our funding programme will support the following outcomes:
- our waterways in the Rodney area are protected and restored
- the water quality in Rodney's three harbours is improved
- financial support and professional advice for improving the health of our waterways is available.
Funding priorities
- Te Arai
- Cape Rodney
- Tāwharanui
- Matakana (upper and lower).
The catchment is 240 square kilometres, with 79 per cent of the area in farm land. It is a priority as high sediment loads are lost waterways and into the harbour.
The catchment is next to the Hoteo and Mahurangi catchments which are part of central governments wider programme funding partnerships.
The Rodney Local Board will also work with partners such as Fonterra, Beef and Lamb, Dairy NZ and groups like the Forest Bridge Trust. This partnership will enable these groups to work directly with local landowners and give them support.
