Who can apply for a Regional Historic Heritage Grant
The programme is for individuals, iwi or Māori groups, community groups, trusts and other organisations that contribute to the protection and improvement of regionally significant historic heritage places, sites or areas.
Projects must involve at least one of the following:
- Historic heritage places that are included in one of the schedules of the Auckland Unitary Plan including:
- the historic heritage schedule
- sites of significance to mana whenua
- contributing sites within a historic heritage area
- trees included in the Notable trees schedule.
- Historic heritage places in the Auckland Council District Plan (Hauraki Gulf Islands section) heritage appendices, listed as:
- archaeological sites
- buildings, objects, properties and places of special value
- Māori heritage sites
- trees.
Examples of projects the programme will fund
- Protection of the structural integrity of buildings or historic land.
- Restoration of heritage features, including archaeological sites.
- Maintenance and repair of historic heritage places.
- Kaitiakitanga of Māori cultural heritage places.
- Enabling public access to scheduled historic places.
- Reinstating heritage features, such as window frames and historic shopfronts.
What happens after you apply
Our heritage staff members will assess your application.
We will make recommendations to the General Manager, Planning and Resource Consents, who has delegated authority to make final funding decisions.
We will contact you by email to let you know the result of your application.
If your application is successful, we will send you a funding agreement with the terms and conditions of the grant.
You will have 12 months to complete your project and fulfill grant accountability requirements.
