Application for resource consent open for submission
Section 95A of the Resource Management Act 1991
Auckland Council has received an application from Watercare Services Limited for land use consent, and water and discharge permits, associated with the provision of a new collector sewer approximately 3.2 kilometres in length from Canada Street in Auckland’s Central Business District (CBD) to Western Springs Park at Western Springs. The collector sewer will range in diameter between 2.4m to 4.5m and will have three branch connections.
The land use consents relate to exceedances of construction noise and vibration standards, tree removal, trimming and alterations, earthworks, including earthworks within a floodplain, temporary activities associated with construction and the disturbance of contaminated land.
The water permit is for groundwater diversion and dewatering associated with the construction of the proposed trunk sewer, branch and engineering connections, and shafts.
The discharge of contaminants permit relates to the discharge of contaminants associated with the disturbance of contaminated land.
The primary purpose of the Project is to reduce the frequency of spills from existing engineered overflow points due to the aging nature and limited capacity of the existing combined stormwater and wastewater network. The intent is to result in enhanced environmental outcomes, including a reduction in odour from stormwater catchpits and improved coastal water quality conditions. The proposed trunk sewer connects to the Central Interceptor, which transports wastewater to the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment and discharge.
Location
731 Great North Road, Grey Lynn
The collector sewer will run from Canada Street (Auckland CBD) to Western Springs Park, Western Springs where it will connect into the Central Interceptor.
