About Waterview Reserve

Waterview Reserve – Accessible car park at the Waterbank Crescent entrance, with the basketball court in the background.

Waterview Reserve is a fantastic park to visit with a range of activities for kids of all ages.

The park has:

a well-equipped playground and water play area
a learn-to-ride bike track for small riders and a BMX track for the more adventurous
skateboard and scooter tracks for beginner and intermediate riders
a full-sized basketball court
a beach volleyball court
a whare structure for shade and shelter.

The accessible toilet is next to the playground. Accessible paths connect the play areas to the Waterview Heritage Area and Te Auaunga (Oakley Creek).

The splash pad operates seven days a week from 10am to 8pm during the summer.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. Visit Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

Playgrounds at Waterview Reserve

This is a fantastic playground for all ages, featuring sand play with a mini digger, sand equipment, and a beach volleyball net. Fun and exciting water play areas are also situated around the playground, and a mini cycle track for kids surrounds the playground.

A basketball court, netball hoop, and large grassy area is also available. A standing gazebo offers shade, and there is easy wheelchair and pram access to all equipment.

Follow these rules to keep yourself and others safe:

Playgrounds are risky and designed to challenge – always supervise children.
Use play equipment as it is intended.
Playgrounds are for everyone – respect others, take turns.

Summer tips:

Playground surfaces get hot – check before using and wear appropriate clothing and shoes.

Basketball

There is a fullsized basketball court at the Waterbank Crescent side of the park.

Beach volley ball

The beach volley ball court is near the playground.

Located next to the playground. Open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter.

Drinking fountains

There are drinking fountains close to the playground and the BMX track.

Seating

There is plenty of seating available throughout the park.

Bus stops

The closest bus stops are near the intersection of Herdman Crescent and Great North Road.

Our skate parks are not supervised.

Follow these rules to keep yourself and others safe:

Wear a well-fitting helmet and other protective gear.
Skate to your ability – don't try new tricks until you're confident.
Don't sit in or walk through the skating area.
Skate parks are for everyone – take turns, be courteous and have fun!

Picnic areas

There are picnic tables and seating near the playground.

Accessible parking

There is one accessible car park space at the Waterbank Crescent entrance.

Disabled access

This park is well connected with accessible footpaths.

Heritage area

Find out about the history of the area which once housed a bustling village, brickyard, tannery, flax mill and a flour mill.

Limited mobility toilet block

The accessible toilet with wheelchair friendly paths is next to the playground, at the Herdman and Waterbank Crescent entrances. Open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter.

Barbecue

The barbecue is near the playground at the Herdman Crescent entrance.

Whare

The whare structure next to the playground provides shade and shelter all year round.

Activities at Waterview Reserve

Splash pad

Operates in summer only.
Bring the kids to enjoy our fun and exciting splash pad and water play area in the middle of the playground.

Walking

The paths throughout the park are good for walking. There are some steep areas, and steps up to the bridge in the heritage area.

Cycling

The park has a learn-to-ride bike track for small riders and a BMX track for the more adventurous.

Picnics

There are plenty of nice spots around the reserve that are suitable for having a picnic.

Volleyball

The court is next to the playground and basketball court.

Basketball

The full court is between the playground and volleyball court on the corner of Herdman Street and Waterbank Crescent.

Skating

Waterview Reserve skate park has a bowled transition area with boxes, rails and stairs plus a learn-to-ride and BMX track.
