About Ōrākei Basin Reserve

The reserve has the large tidal Ōrākei Basin which is used for a range of water sports. Check out the basin’s flushing schedule, and bookings and public availability.

It has good paved and gravel pathways along water’s edge, connection to Hobson Bay Walkway, and cycling connection along a boardwalk beside the train line between Orakei Train Station and Purewa Road.

Access from Orakei Road. Pedestrians can also access from Upland, Lucerne, Meadowbank and Purewa roads.

Parking, seating and the Ōrākei Basin Reserve boat ramp are inside the park.

Follow the Ōrākei Basin Path to walk the 2.9 kms around the basin.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Ōrākei Basin Reserve

  • Car park  ‑ Access from the bottom of Orakei Road. The road to the car park is very narrow and shared with pedestrians - keep your speed down and take care. Open 7am to 9pm daily.

What to see and do at Ōrākei Basin Reserve

  • Boat ramp  ‑ At the end of the road near the car park.
  • Wharf and jetty  ‑ At the end of the road near the car park.
