About Western Park

Western Park is a steep park sloping down from Ponsonby Road to Freemans Bay. It is full of established trees, has planted gullies and a good network of footpaths.

A playground, sports fields and tennis courts occupy the lower flat part of the site.

Access from Ponsonby Road, and Beresford, Hepburn, Hopetoun, Smith and Tahuna streets. You will need to park on the road.

A playground, accessible toilets, fitness equipment, tennis courts, sports fields, picnic tables and seating, and drinking fountains are inside the park.

Follow the 1km Western Park Path loop around the park.

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.
