About Smiths Bush Scenic Reserve
Smiths Bush has some of the oldest remnant bush on the North Shore.
It has a series of looped walking tracks amongst the mature forest including a cathedral grove of giant pūriri and kahikatea and tōtara trees. The tracks are mostly on raised boardwalks, and there is seating dotted around the track.
Pedestrian access off Akoranga Drive, through Kitewao Street Esplanade Reserve and Onewa Domain.
For more active recreation opportunities in this area you can:
- visit the adjoining Onewa Domain and Kitewao Street Esplanade Reserve
- cross Northcote Road at the northern end of the reserve to get to A F Thomas Park or
- cross Akoranga Drive to get to Akoranga Reserve.
Follow Smiths Bush Path through the bush on elevated boardwalks.

Animals
Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.
Alcohol

Smokefree parks
Our parks are all smokefree.
Waste
Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.
Outdoor fires
It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.
