About Meola Reef Reserve

A very large nature reserve of geological interest covering nearly 15 hectares. The reserve is a popular dog walking spot for the locals!

The reserve has natural mangroves and salt marsh on the landward end. There are also large areas of bush and open grassed space. It is also a unique reef habitat for intertidal organisms in the Waitematā Harbour.

Access from several points along Meola Road. The paths through the reserve are mostly gravel. You will find some seating along the paths and a drinking fountain about half way to the waters edge.

Parking

  • There is a small off-street car park at the main entrance to the reserve (24 hours).
  • Seddon Fields car park - access from Meola Road (24 hours).
  • Seddon Fields overflow car park - access from Meola Road (9am to 6pm only), or from Old Mill Road and drive past the MOTAT Aviation Museum.

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.
