Acquired by the former Auckland City Council in 1917, this park was named after Auckland's first woman councillor, Ellen Melville. It is an attractive open space surrounded by mature trees.
A good network of paths link Gillies Avenue and St Andrews Road, and loop around the playing fields. Accessible toilets, the playground, picnic tables and seating are at the St Andrews Road entrance.

It is now mostly used by the Epsom Croquet Club and for women’s cricket. The Melville Cricket Pavilion is inside the Saint Andrews Road entrance.
