About Auckland Botanic Gardens

Auckland Botanic Gardens - spring time.

Allow yourself to be inspired by our gardens with over 9,000 plant species from around the world. The gardens and displays are easily accessed from the network of paths across 64 hectares.

Follow the Botanic Gardens East Sculpture Path and the Botanic Gardens West Sculpture Path to admire the sculptural artworks.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Auckland Botanic Gardens

Pedestrian access ‑ Hours of access are aligned with the seasonal gate access hours. Find out more about our opening hours and how to get to the gardens.
Car parks ‑ There are two large car parks inside the main entrance to the gardens.
Gate access summer ‑ 8am to 8pm (October to March). Find out more about our opening hours and how to get to the gardens.
Gate access winter ‑ 8am to 6pm (April to September). Find out more about our opening hours and how to get to the gardens.

Drinking fountain ‑ Drinking fountains are near the Rose Garden and the Potter Children's Garden.

Note: dogs are allowed under control on a leash on the lower café terrace next to the courtyard. Please do not leave your dog unattended.

- all waterbodies and stream banks including the Puhinui Stream, lakes, dams, ponds, and other streams and waterways.

Applies to the area located north of the Palm and Rose gardens (including the shared event site) through to the Everglade Drive area as indicated by the signs.
Note: during events dogs may be allowed under control on a leash or be prohibited at the discretion of the council.

Venues for hire

We have a range of meeting and event venues for hire.

Drinking fountain

Drinking fountains are near the Rose Garden and the Potter Children's Garden.

Toilets

Our toilets are all wheelchair accessible. They are by the Potter Children's Garden, outside the Library and in the Rose Garden. There is also an accessible bathroom and family room with a changing table in Huakaiwaka visitor centre.
