About Sanders Reserve

A 41-hectare multi-use park that has a significant number of mountain bike trails. The trail includes a 500 metre trail designed for children.

The picnic areas have stunning views of the Waitemata Harbour. There is also a separate horse riding area, and coastal forest and native bird habitat on the water's edge.

Access the car park from Sanders Road. The gates are open 6am to 8.30pm in summer and 6am to 6.30pm in winter.

A playground, toilets and changing rooms, car park, bmx and walking tracks, horse-riding areas, fenced dog exercise area, picnic tables and seating, drinking fountains and barbecues are inside the park.

Follow the short Sanders Dog Lovers Path to the dog zone, or the 4km cycle loop Sanders Reserve Recreation Path.

Venue for hire

The kiosk at the reserve is available for hire by groups of up to 20 people.

Hireage is free of charge for:

  • local community meetings, activities, coffee groups and children's parties
  • council meetings.

It is not available to commercial or private businesses.

  • day and times you would like the booking for (include time for setup and cleanup).

You will be advised if your requested time is available.

If available, all details (including where and when to collect the key) will be provided with your booking confirmation.

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Sanders Reserve

  • Wheelchair access  ‑ Most of the paths are unsealed and have a gravel and sand base. Wheelchair users may need help to get from the carpark to the visitor centre building. There is a small sealed area around the building.
  • Car park  ‑ Access the car park from Sanders Road. Gate open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter.
