Archibald Park
109 Archibald Road, Kelston

About Archibald Park

Archibald Park is a large park on the Kelston Peninsula. It has excellent views of the Whau River and activities for all ages.

The park is named after James Archibald. He ran the Archibald Brickyard, a major brickmaking firm in this area, until his death in 1910. Land reclamation in the 20th century led to the establishment of Archibald Park.

The large playground caters to all age groups. Well-positioned picnic tables and seats provide great views of the Whau River.

The sports fields are used by the Ponsonby-Kelston Rugby club in winter. They are also used for cricket and other sports like kilikiti.

The boat ramp and jetty by the Beaubank Road car park provide river access for water-based activities like kayaking.

Access the car park from Beaubank Road (open from 7am to 9pm daily) or park at the end of Archibald Road. Pedestrians can also access from Brains Road, Cobham Crescent and Ingleby Place. Bus stop 5286 is at 112 Archibald Road.

A large playground, jetty, car park, toilets, sports fields, flying fox, picnic tables and seating are inside the park. The park also has two basketball courts next to the playground. You can access the courts from Archibald Road.

Archibald Park is part of Te Whau Pathway offering a safe off-road shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. It is perfect for learning to ride a bike or walking along the river.

You can also follow the 4km Archibald to Brains Path circuit of both parks.

Accessible features at this park

A wide, flat accessible walkway connects the Beaubank Road car park with the playground and sports fields. There are no allocated accessible spaces in the car park.

Accessible toilets, changing rooms and seating are located along the walkway.
