About Māngere Mountain

Te Pane o Mataoho / Te Ara Pueru is one of Auckland's many volcanic cones. The volcano erupted about 18,000 years ago.

The land is owned by the Crown and is administered through the Tūpuna Maunga o Tāmaki Makaurau Authority.

Access the maunga from Domain Road. The summit gates are open from 7am to 8.30pm in summer, and 7am to 7pm in winter.

Whānau ātea

Enjoy the whānau ātea space with a playground featuring māra hupara (traditional Māori) play spaces for all ages. We also have a kī-o-rahi field, basketball court and a bookable hāngī pit. Visit the Tūpuna Maunga Authority website to find out more about the hāngī pit.

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

What to see and do at Māngere Mountain

  • Whānau ātea  ‑ The whānau ātea is a space for everyone to enjoy. It has a playground with māra hupara play areas for all ages, basketball court, integrated skate space, ki-o-rahi field and bookable hāngī pit.
  • Bookable hāngī pit  ‑ 

    The Hāngī pit is available to be booked for fundraisers and private events like birthdays or weddings. Hosting or using the hāngī can be a unique and fun way to sell kai packages for any type of fundraiser from sporting events, school trips and more.

    Our skate parks are not supervised.

    Follow these rules to keep yourself and others safe:

    • Wear a well-fitting helmet and other protective gear.
    • Skate to your ability – don't try new tricks until you're confident.
    • Don't sit in or walk through the skating area.
    • Skate parks are for everyone – take turns, be courteous and have fun!
