About Barry Curtis Park

Barry Curtis Park has a lot of opportunity for recreational activity. In the future, the total land area of 94 hectares will surround the western part of the town centre. Development is expected to be completed in 2022.

Playgrounds, sports fields, accessible toilets and changing rooms, car parks (including mobility parks in some of the car parks), basketball court, skate ramp, seating and picnic tables, drinking fountains and tracks are inside the park.

Access the car park for basketball and the skate ramp from Chapel Road, playgrounds from Stancombe Road, and sports fields from Flat Bush School Road. Carpark gates are open 7am to 6.30pm in winter and 7am to 8.30pm during daylight savings.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Barry Curtis Park

  • Car park  ‑ Access from Chapel Road. Gates open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter.

What to see and do at Barry Curtis Park

  • Drinking fountain  ‑ Drinking fountains are near the skatepark, by the Chapel Street carparks, near the southern toilets and on John Walker Promenade.

    Skate park safety rules

    Our skate parks are not supervised.

    Follow these rules to keep yourself and others safe:

    • Wear a well-fitting helmet and other protective gear.
    • Skate to your ability – don't try new tricks until you're confident.
    • Don't sit in or walk through the skating area.
    • Skate parks are for everyone – take turns, be courteous and have fun!
