About Western Reserve

Western Reserve is a large open space suitable for all types of recreational activity - all just minutes away from Ōrewa Beach. Access from Hibiscus Coast Highway.

The reserve is home to the well designed Ōrewa Skate Park. It is great for skateboarders, scooters and bikers of all ages and abilities. A basketball court is right next to the skate park.

The Estuary Arts Centre, Orewa Bowling Club, Hibiscus Pétanque Club, Hibiscus Coast Community House and Hibiscus Coast Youth Centre and Hibiscus Coast Dog Training Club are all located in the reserve.

Toilets, seating, picnic tables, car park (including mobility parking) and a wharf are also inside the park.

Follow the Te Ara Tahuna / Ōrewa Estuary Path that loops around the estuary, or the Ōrewa Beachfront Path from the southern end of the reserve to Arundel Reserve.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

    Skate park safety rules

    Our skate parks are not supervised.

    Follow these rules to keep yourself and others safe:

    • Wear a well-fitting helmet and other protective gear.
    • Skate to your ability – don't try new tricks until you're confident.
    • Don't sit in or walk through the skating area.
    • Skate parks are for everyone – take turns, be courteous and have fun!

  • Boat ramp  ‑ One-lane boat ramp on the Orewa Estuary.
