About Sister Rene Shadbolt Park

Sister Rene Shadbolt Park is a long, narrow sports park. It was renamed in 1942 after Sister Rene Shadbolt, a New Zealand nurse who served in the Spanish Civil War.

A gravel path starts by the playground at the northern end of the park and goes toward the bush area. It connects with a path that runs down the eastern side of the park to the skate park and basketball half-court. You can walk through to the adjoining Craigavon Park from the southern end.

Access the car park from Connaught Street. Pedestrians can also access from Portage Road, and Kinross and Connell streets.

Follow the 1.5km Sister Rene Shadbolt Path around the perimeter of the park.

The Te Whau Pathway also runs along Portage Road on the western side of this park.

Accessible features at this park

Accessible, concrete paths link the sports fields and the car park. The gravel path is mostly flat but has some stairs so is more challenging for those with access needs.

There are accessible parking spaces in the car park. These are close to the accessible toilets.

Clubs at this park

The park is home to the Suburbs Rugby Football Club.
