Henderson Park
41A Wilsher Crescent, Henderson

About Henderson Park

Henderson Park has large open spaces perfect for all sorts of recreational activities. There is a small cluster of fitness equipment in the middle of the park.

A walkway south takes you past Opanuku Stream Reserve and Shona Esplanade Reserve. You will find a picnic area and panels with information about the wildlife along the way. Opanuku highlights include the kōwhai (in flower around October), and the calls of fantail, tūī and kingfisher.

The neighbouring Opanuku Reserve follows its namesake, a babbling stream, through lush native bush. This is a sheltered area and rejuvenating place for walkers or joggers, even on cool or windy days.

Recreational opportunities include disc/frisbee golf, paved and dirt walking tracks through the park and stream side, and sports fields.

Access the car park from Wilsher Crescent. Pedestrians can also access the park from:

  • Wilshire Crescent
  • Smythe Road
  • Vintage Drive (north and south)
  • Mount Lebanon Lane
  • Khaleel Place
  • Opanuku Reserve.

Toilets, seating and picnic tables, car park, and sports fields are inside the park. Changing rooms are available through sports field bookings only.

Follow the Opanuku Path from Opanuku Reserve, through Henderson Park, along the peaceful Opanuku Stream to Shona Esplanade Reserve, before turning and retracing your steps.

For a longer walk, take the Opanuku Stream Path along the Opanuku Stream and through lush native bush.
