About Waikumete Cemetery

Waikumete Cemetery is New Zealand's largest and includes the Erebus Memorial, Holocaust Memorial, New Zealand Influenza Epidemic memorial and ANZAC Cenotaph.

Waikumete is also the Southern Hemisphere’s largest burial ground for service personnel of the World Wars and post-war veterans.

Catering for a wide range of denominational and cultural groups, it also offers alternative services.

Established in 1886, the 108ha cemetery is the resting place for over 70,000 people.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.
