About Hooton Reserve

Close to the northern motorway, this large open recreational area has a long cycleway through to Oteha Valley Reserve. You can also cross a small bridge at the end of Mills Lane to get to Gills Road Reserve.

Access the car park from Mills Lane.

A playground, toilets, car park (with mobility parks), fitness equipment, basketball courts, skate park, bike stand, drinking fountains and seating are inside the park.

Follow the 3.5km Hooton Reserve Path through the reserve.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Hooton Reserve

  • Car park  ‑ Access to the Hooton Reserve car park is on the left when you enter Mills Lane. Gates open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter.

    Skate park safety rules

    Our skate parks are not supervised.

    Follow these rules to keep yourself and others safe:

    • Wear a well-fitting helmet and other protective gear.
    • Skate to your ability – don't try new tricks until you're confident.
    • Don't sit in or walk through the skating area.
    • Skate parks are for everyone – take turns, be courteous and have fun!
  • Fitness equipment  ‑ Fitness equipment is next to the footpath along the northern side of the park.
  • Drinking fountain  ‑ Drinking fountain is near the toilets.
