Ōmana Perimeter Track

A relatively easy walk around Ōmana Regional Park on the spectacular Beachlands-Maraetai coastline, in south-east Auckland.

This walk has it all: native forest, tidal estuaries with life-giving mangroves (manawa), open paddocks, coastal views and a Māori pā site.

Start at the park entrance off Ōmana Beach Road, and follow the signs. The track is a combination of paved, gravel, grass, and boardwalk tracks.

Take the short detour to the lookout. You'll be rewarded with expansive views of the Hauraki Gulf including Waiheke, Rangitoto and Motuihe islands.

After your walk, enjoy a picnic or barbecue and some games on the large flat grass areas. There are even wood-fired barbecues (bring your own wood or buy from the park ranger).

Kids will have a blast at the playground, which features a climbing web and colourful artwork telling the stories of Māori ancestors.

Ōmana Beach is a shelly beach offering safe swimming at high tide and shady pōhutukawa trees to relax under. The views of Rangitoto Island are spectacular.
