Park closed for pest control from 5pm Wednesday 15 October 2025 until further notice
We have closed Hūnua Ranges Regional Park for extensive pest animal control operations. You should not enter the park as there is a risk to people and pets from this operation.
We are clearing the tracks and roads of 1080 bait so it is safe to visit again. We will let you know when the park is ready to reopen.

Starts at 164A Moumoukai Road, Hūnua
Hūnua Ranges Regional Park is a natural playground with bush clad ranges, streams and magnificent vistas. This loop walk combines the Suspension Bridge Track with part of the Wairoa Cossey Track.
Start at the iconic suspension bridge over Wairoa Stream. The bridge is located near the car park on the Wairoa Reservoir Access Road (off Moumoukai Road).
Follow the Suspension Bridge Track through lush vegetation, climbing to a spectacular lookout platform above the Wairoa Reservoir.
Continue on the track to the junction with the Wairoa Cossey Track. Turn right at the junction and follow the track back down to the road.
There's a scenic picnic area and public toilets on this route.
Dogs are allowed on this track under control and on-leash, however must be kept away from the dam and water supply.
To prevent the spread of kauri dieback, large sections of the Hūnua Ranges Regional Park are now closed. Please stay on the walking tracks, and follow the instructions to clean your shoes before and after your visit.
