Campground is an open grassed area.
We have closed the park for extensive pest animal control operations. You should not enter the park as there is a risk to people and pets from this operation.
We are clearing the tracks and roads of 1080 bait so it is safe to visit again. We will let you know when the park is ready to reopen.

We have put a detour on the top section of this track due to a large slip.
The track is still open, but please use the road while we work to undertake repairs. Check the signs showing the detour route.
We have closed large sections of the Hūnua Ranges to prevent the spread of kauri dieback.
When you visit our parks, you need to clean your footwear and equipment to avoid transferring disease from one area to another.

Main park gates are open from 6am to 9pm during daylight savings hours and 6am to 7pm during non-daylight saving hours.
Drive through the Hūnua Village and continue for 8km before turning left onto Moumoukai Road. Follow Moumoukai Road to its end, where it turns into A R A Drive when entering the park at the top of the hill.
From here descend into Mangatawhiri Valley where you will continue straight for another 2km. Signage will then direct you to turn right to the Upper Mangatawhiri Campground.

Bookings can only be made six months in advance for campgrounds. Availability refreshes at midnight daily.
From 17 December to 31 January: group bookings are limited to a maximum of 10 people.
From 1 February to 16 December: group bookings are limited to a maximum of 20 people.

Dogs, other animals and pets are prohibited at all times.
Your campsite must be clean and tidy during your stay, and when you leave.
No bins or rubbish disposal facilities. Take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.
This is an all-modes campground. You may stay in a tent, motorhome, campervan, caravan, 5 wheeler, bus or campermatic/pop top camper under 10m.
Vehicle access is dependant on ground conditions. If it is dry, you may park your vehicle next to your tent.
If ground conditions deteriorate over winter we may close the campground to all vehicles. You can then park in the main car park and walk your gear to your campsite. Check for alerts on this page over the winter period.
