Access is generally not allowed to properties with red placards but you can request temporary access.

To request temporary access to a red placarded property you need to give us:

• your property address
• your email and phone number
• the names of people who will be entering the property including their company name and whether a person is an owner/occupier
• the reason for entry
• the time and date for entry and exit
• written confirmation from a suitably qualified professional that a health and safety plan has been prepared and will be followed when entering the property.

Send this information to us at rbacomms@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz. A case manager assigned to the property will assess the request.

Properties can be accessed by:

• suitably qualified professionals (licensed building practitioners, geotechnical or structural engineers, or geologists)
• representatives of the property owner (insurance loss adjustors or property managers)
• property owners or occupiers.

We help to manage temporary access for properties within controlled access zones Area in Muriwai previously known as exclusion zone. It includes properties and homes that have been identified as having a greater risk of land instability following Cyclone Gabrielle. .

There is currently only one controlled access zone in Tāmaki Makaurau and it is located within a section of Muriwai. See Muriwai section on Property risk categories to find out more.
