In 2024, our Healthy Waters team applied to central government for flood resilience works needed after the:
This is part of an Order in Council (OiC) process. It is also known as the 'Severe Weather Emergency Recovery (Auckland Flood Resilience Works) Order 2024'.
The two catchment areas of the Te Ararata and Harania Creeks in Māngere were among the worst hit by the weather events in Auckland. We applied for an OiC to speed-up the recovery of these areas by shortening the resource consent process required for flood resilience works.
Central government approved the proposed OiC following public feedback in 2024. This came into effect on 25 October 2024 and expires on 31 March 2028.
We expect to complete these works before the OiC expires.
