You must be the property owner or an authorised person to request a different size rubbish bin.
You will need to pay a one-off fee of $40 to exchange your bin. The administration fee is separate to the waste services charge.

How to request a different size bin
Rubbish bin requests for Franklin and Rodney
You can request a 80L, 120L or 240L bin.
If you exchange your rubbish bin for a smaller size, the $40 administration fee for bin exchanges will be offset against your rates reduction:
- If the rates reduction is less than $40, you will not pay any extra fees.
- If the reduction is more than $40, the difference will be credited to your rates account.
This will be valid for the:
- Franklin area from 1 July 2025 to 31 July 2025
- Rodney area from 1 September 2025 to 30 September 2025.

Swap lost bin for a different size
If your bin is missing you can also use this form to swap your lost bin for a different size.
Bin exchange administration fee
We will still charge the administration fee if we go to your property and the exchange does not happen. For example, if the bin is:
- not found
- not on the kerbside
- full at the time.
Requesting a bin on behalf of a tenant or owner
If you are requesting a bin for a tenant or owner you must provide a copy of the Property Management Authority (PMA).
You should:
- submit the bin request
- email wasteservices@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz the service request number, property address and PMA.
How bin exchanges work
- Complete the online form and we will email a service request number to you.
- We will let you know by email or text when to put your empty bin out for exchange.
- We will exchange your bin within 15 working days.
- We will send an invoice for the $40 admin fee and any related waste service charges.
