About Taumanu Reserve

Beachfront reserve suitable for walking, cycling and swimming. It includes bird colonies and the Onehunga boat ramp. Use the Taumanu Bridge over the motorway to get to Onehunga Bay Reserve.

Flying kites, kite surfing and fishing are not permitted due to the danger of low power lines.

Access the car park from Orpheus Drive. Pedestrians can also access through Onehunga Bay Reserve.

Toilets and changing rooms (including accessible), car park (including mobility parking), seating and picnic tables, and drinking fountains are inside the park. Cross the bridge to Onehunga Bay Reserve to get to the nearest playground. Park gates are open 6am to 8.30pm in summer, and 6am to 7.30pm in winter.

Follow the Onehunga Bay to Waikowhai Path and the Cornwall Park to Manukau Harbour section of the Coast to Coast Path.

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Taumanu Reserve

  • Parking  ‑ There is parking available at the Seacliffe Road end of Orpheus Drive.
  • Pedestrian access  ‑ 24 hours
  • Gate access winter  ‑ 6am to 7.30pm
  • Gate access summer  ‑ 6am to 8.30pm

What to see and do at Taumanu Reserve

  • Boat ramp  ‑ There is a boat ramp accessed from the Orpheus Drive entrance. Boats can be launched at any time, though it's best at high tide.
  • Drinking fountain
