The Symonds Street Cemetery is one of New Zealand’s oldest urban cemeteries. It was established in 1841, and was Auckland's main burial ground until 1886, when Waikumete Cemetery was opened.
The western part of the cemetery, located on the Karangahape Road side of Symonds Street, contains:
As the cemetery is a significant heritage site, there are some restrictions around monument conservation. To learn more, see the Monuments and headstones page.
Access from Karangahape Road, Symonds and Upper Queen streets, and Grafton Gully pathway.
Parking is available at the adjacent Upper Queen Street car park.
Picnic tables and seating, and drinking fountains are inside the park.

Animals
Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.
Alcohol

Our parks are all smokefree.
Waste
Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.
Outdoor fires
It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.
