About Kennedy Park

Large local reserve named after John F Kennedy, the former US president.

Access on foot from Rahopara Pa, or by car from Beach Road.

Gates open daily at 6am, and close at 8.30pm in summer and 6.30pm in winter.

A playground, toilets, parking, seating, petanque, and World War Two buildings and tunnels are inside the park. The walkway takes you to the famous Kennedy Park stairs down to the beach.

Follow the Kennedy Park to Castor Bay Path through the park to Castor Bay Beach.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

How to access Kennedy Park

  • Car park  ‑ Access from Beach Road. Gates open 7am to 9pm in summer and 7am to 7pm in winter.

What to see and do at Kennedy Park

  • Drinking fountain  ‑ At the end of the car park near the playground.
