About the path

A short, family-friendly walk between Kennedy Park and Castor Bay Beach.

Start at Kennedy Park, an area rich in Māori and military history. Here there is an ancient Māori pā site (Rahopara Pā) dating back hundreds of years. You'll also see historic WWII tunnels and gun emplacement areas.

Kennedy Park has a children's playground with a large climbing web and sandpit area covered by shade sails. There is also a public toilet nearby. Kennedy Park can be muddy in winter so wear appropriate shoes.

Stop at the lookout point at Kennedy Park to admire the spectacular coastal views to Rangitoto Island.

At the southern end of Kennedy Park, exit to Beach Road and continue down the footpath to Castor Bay Beach. There are a few steep hills which will get your heart pumping. Cross at the pedestrian crossing on Castor Bay Road.

Castor Bay Beach is a great swimming beach, perfect for taking a dip or enjoying a picnic underneath the shady trees. There is also another great kids playground, more public toilets and a grassy area to run around with little ones.
