Olympic Park
36 Portage Road, New Lynn

About Olympic Park

This large park straddles the Wai Tahurangi Stream, feeding into the Whau River. It sits at the mid-point of the historic portage route used by Māori to travel between the Manukau and Waitematā harbours.

The name of the park came from:

  • its association with the Olympic Games and its sporting facilities
  • having produced several Olympic athletes since the late 1930s.

There is plenty of open, green space for picnics or the kids to kick a ball around. Basketball courts, a concrete cycling velodrome, and sports fields provide more opportunities for activity.

Our state-of-the-art playground, sandpit, and climbing nets have something for the whole family. It was awarded The Outstanding Park Award by the New Zealand Recreation Association in 2017.

A covered stage is used for events, and you will find a series of local artworks scattered across the park.

Access the car parks from Portage Road, Wolverton Street, and Olympic Place. The car park gates are open from 7am to 9pm. The nearest bus stops are by the playground at the Wolverton Street entrance.

A playground, car parks, toilets, sports facilities, picnic tables, seating, and drinking fountains are inside the park.

Follow the 1.4km loop Olympic Park Path around the park.
