Detailed information on our categorisation approach is available under 'Terms and guidance documents' on Storm recovery documents.
If a property does not meet the 'intolerable risk to life' classification, it will be assigned as Category 1. Category 1 is not determined by the extent of damage to a property. It can be assigned to properties with some damage or no damage at all.
There is no financial assistance for Category 1 homeowners in the co-funding agreement between the Governing Body and New Zealand Government.
This means Category 1 properties are not eligible for a Category 3 buy-out 3 or Category 2P mitigation grants.
